In September of 2017, Ruby was diagnosed with intermediate risk neuroblastoma. Her care and treatment at CHOC inspired me to leave my job in the for profit sector and join the marketing team at CHOC as a way to give back and support an organization that has meant so much to our family.

Unfortunately, this March, Ruby was back in the hospital with leg pain and a fever. She spent 3 long weeks at CHOC, battling various symptoms and pain that we found out to be a reoccurence of cancer. After countless scans and biopsies, it was determined that this was a completely unrelated form of cancer that still does not have an official diagnosis. As far as we know, it is a small, round blue cell tumor that is being treated as a sarcoma. It has spread to different areas of her body and she is scheduled for 14 rounds of chemo and at least 6 weeks of radiation.

These past few months have been a whirlwind of chemo cycles, clinic visits, blood transfusions, and managing side effects. But it has also been filled with quiet days of resting, big laughs, smiles, cuddles, and fun. Through it all, Ruby is Ruby. Her strength and courage has been immeasurable. Her light and joy still radiates everyday, and we are determined to beat cancer again. Thank you to all of our family, friends, and caregivers who have helped her (and us) in this battle.

I am prouder than ever to work for an organization like CHOC, that tirelessly works to keep her and so many other kids and families healthy, happy, and strong. She is our sunshine, and her light is as bright as ever. I love you to the moon and back. #BeAwesomeRuby
