We're so excited to honor Nora’s 4th birthday by participating in the 2025 CHOC Walk in the Park presented by Disneyland® Resort on Sunday, August 3rd, to raise funds for CHOC!
My sister Nora was born prematurely on April 7th, 2021, with Cerebral Palsy and stage 4 Intraventricular Hemorrhage, initiating a tumultuous first week of surgeries, tests, and consultations with numerous specialists. After grappling with consistent prognoses, we faced the agonizing decision with the guidance of a palliative care therapist.
The compassionate nurses, social workers, therapists, and staff at CHOC went above and beyond to accommodate our family during Nora's final moments. They provided us with precious mementos like imprints of her hands and feet, a recording of her heartbeat, knitted beanies, blankets, and a gown fashioned from a wedding dress to clothe her delicate form. COVID restrictions were lifted, allowing Nora to meet her big sister, grandparents, and aunties. During these poignant visits, a NICU nurse documented our cherished moments. As we bid Nora farewell, I received comforting toys and teddy bears, with a musician serenading us with lullabies. For the first time, Nora lay in our arms free from machines and wires, liberated from needles and surgeries. My mom cradled her for eight hours until her final breath and heartbeat. Following her passing, we were granted the opportunity to give her a gentle bath, enveloped in profound peace.
Every gesture, no matter how small, orchestrated by the CHOC team, transformed our NICU journey into a serene and graceful transition for our baby girl.
The support and care provided by the CHOC team allowed us closure, cherished memories, and solace in Nora's passing. For this, we are forever grateful and committed to contributing to the organization's mission.
