This year, our family is participating in the CHOC Walk to give back to a hospital that has given so much to us. In 2018, our daughter began a long journey with the CHOC Urology department when she was just two months old. Over the next five years, she was in and out of the hospital with constant infections, facing isolation during every single stay.

Now, almost 8 years and 5 surgeries later, she is a regular kid who is still a patient at CHOC urology and neurology, gastro and nephrology. With the love and support of the hospital staff, Child Life, Dr. Heidi Stephanie, the entire neurology department, and nephrology department, we are now able to give our girl a normal life.
 

Through it all, the Child Life team and the amazing nurses kept us going 24/7—always kind, always patient, and always willing to help. Child Life kept her spirits high and her hands busy with crafts, letting her focus on happiness and just being a kid. The endless amounts of things to do gave her isolation a fun twist that later led to a lifetime love for crafting and art. The nurses were always ready and willing to take the time she needed to adjust to new people or shift changes, and were always there to help me process what the doctors were telling me.
 

It is truly thanks to CHOC that our daughter is the strong, beautiful girl we see today, alive and kicking. We are walking to raise funds so they can continue saving lives and bringing that same love and support to other families as they did for ours.
