I have been supporting CHOC hospital since I was very little. The reason why I spend time and money to fund raise for CHOC is because they saved my life when I was a baby. I fund raise money because I want CHOC hospital to continue saving others and helping us build a better community and better future because I believe that "Children are our future."

I am so excited to be participating in CHOC Walk's 30th anniversary event - CHOC Adventure in the Park presented by the Disneyland® Resort to raise funds for CHOC!

Along my journey, I get to meet new friends where CHOC has made an impact in their lives. A special reason why we are walking this year is because CHOC not only helps children in our community, but they are also there for all kids near and far. I recently went to the Junior National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. There, I met many new friends from all across the U.S. and created a special bond with all of them. After the program was over, I learned that one of my friends made a pit stop in Orange County before going home to Hawai'i. Our family took the opportunity to meet up with my new friend, Mia and the rest of her family. During Mia's stay here, she suffered an injury which resulted in a broken clavicle bone. She was referred to CHOC and they treated her right away. She's healing fine now and talked about how she liked being at CHOC for the little time she was there. She was fascinated at how unlike a hospital it was and couldn't believe CHOC has a mascot, Choco Bear, and a "Talking Crush" which is one of four in the world. Her children's hospital back home, she says, feels like a regular hospital and she wishes that it was more like CHOC. Not only does CHOC have a state-of-the-art facility, they try to make it a place for children. For all our future leaders near and far, we are put at ease that CHOC will always be there for our children giving them the best care.

Even as the pandemic continues to linger, and has changed our world, one thing remains unchanged: children still count on CHOC to help them get better. Which is why this year’s event will be reimagined so we can once again join together as a community.

Kara
