Hello! Team EvilDunk is excited to participate in our second year of the CHOC walk. We walk for Duncan Starkenburg and his relentless courage, bravery, and persistence in the face of cancer. Duncan was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia shortly after his eighth-grade graduation this year. Instead of cowering in cancer's shadow, Duncan has chosen to battle it head-on with love, support, and a bright red Mohawk by his side. His friends and family could not be prouder of his strength and willpower during this trying time. Our team name might raise a few questions, so here is the story. For as long as anybody can remember, Duncan has loved video games. He lives and breathes Overwatch, Minecraft, and Ark Survival. Since the beginning, Duncan's username in every game has been EvilDunk. This is why we walk under the name Team EvilDunk: to remind him of the things he loves to do and to support his battles in binary and in reality. Hello team! We have come so far! I was so surprised that we even reached our goal, so you could imagine my excitement as I saw us totaling OVER $10,000! Thank you all so, so much! I have a few quick updates for Team EvilDunk. Please read the following messages carefully. As most of you know, we’ve asked for all walkers to wear any red hair accessory of their choosing. Now along with the hair accessories, we have purchased TeamEvildunk buttons for us to wear! Huge thanks to my dad’s friend, Shane Parrish, for his graphic design skills. We also will have posters to carry for Duncan. Thank you to Emma Rowden for the initial idea and for helping make them! They will be ready next week- just in time for the walk! On the CHOC Walk website, it says walkers need to check-in at the office. This is modified for teams. I will pick up all the shirts and wristbands for all Team Evildunk members and will distribute them before the walk. This saves time and quite a drive for some of you! My family will be ready to meet all Team Evildunk members the Jamba Juice in Downtown Disney at 5:30 am. I know that sounds crazy early, but the walk starts on Main Street at 6 and we want to make sure we don’t miss one bit of the fun! Walkers can get their shirts, wristbands, posters, and buttons at the meeting spot. We will start heading to the park at 5:45, so be sure to meet at Jamba Juice during that 15-minute window. Team Evildunk members and donors: WOW! I am dumbfounded by the amount of love and support Team EvilDunk has received. We are nearly $1,000 OVER our goal. That is CRAZY!!! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated and to those who have joined. My heart is bursting with gratitude. We are doing something amazing! To those who are planning to walk with the team, please come on August 11 wearing some sort of red hair accessory as an homage to Duncan's red mohawk. Red hats, (temporary) hair dye, bows, Mickey ears, or any other sort of red item on your head would work. This would unify us as Team EvilDunk! Again, thank you all so, so much.
