I must admit I had never heard of the annual CHOC Walk until three weeks ago. Oh, I'm sure I saw the ads in the past, but my brain skipped over them. Partly from daily information overload and partly from "not me - not my family" syndrome.
But CHOC now plays a vital role in Duncan's life. In my life. In Meredith and Mike's life.
I am so grateful.
CHOC's oncology program is impressive: Duncan's primary oncologist, Jamie Frediani, is brilliant and personable -- a perfect fit for Duncan; the other oncologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, pharmacists, nutritionists, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, Child Life team, case managers, social services managers, staff, and volunteers are all top-notch and wonderful. Everyone has been kind, patient, and helpful -- my guess is you don't last long on the oncology team if you aren't these things. Besides the people, the patient rooms, patient food services, outpatient clinic, and outpatient infusion center are all first rate.
I am now -- and forever will be -- a grateful fan and supporter of CHOC.
