Welcome to my Team Ryden - HOC Walk Fundraising Page!

Jennifer Pena
I'm so excited to be participating in the 2023 CHOC Walk in the Park presented by Disneyland® Resort on Sunday, August 20, to raise funds for CHOC. The CHOC Walk is back!
My grandson Ryden was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) in utero. HLHS is a congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is underdeveloped leaving him with a single ventricle circulation systems. Ryden had his first open heart surgery at 5 days old, his second at 6 months old, and his 3rd at 4 years old. HLHS can not be cured, the surgeries and treatments allow these kids to function at an almost normal level. However, they will continue to need treatment throughout their lives. Ryden has been a patient of CHOC since birth, and has endured many hospitalizations, catheterizations, surgeries, and other treatments.
In 2022, Ryden was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a congenital eye disease that leads to progressive and permanent loss of vision. He has already lost his peripheral vision and significant night vision.
Through all of his health struggles, Ryden has focused on the positives in his life. He is an active and adventurous 14 yar old who loves to spend time with his family and friends, and hang out at Disneyland. Without the care provided by CHOC, he may have faced a much more difficult childhood. I, and my entire family, will be forever grateful to the nurses, doctors, surgeons, support staff, and everyone else for their thorough and caring treatment of Ryden and so many other children.
Proceeds from this magical event will support health care programs, education, and research at CHOC and CHOC at Mission Hospitals. Help me exceed my fundraising goal for the benefit of the children and families of Southern California by:
-Donating now by clicking the "Donate" button above or
-Joining me at this year's event at the Disneyland® Resort by registering here
Many thanks in advance for helping us make a difference for the children and families of Orange County!
With Gratitude,
Jennifer
