I'm excited to be participating in the 2023 CHOC Walk in the Park presented by Disneyland® Resort on Sunday, August 20, to raise funds for CHOC. Please join me in raising money for CHOC as it holds a special place to our family.
As you might know, Megan was hospitalized following severe breathing issues as the result of RSV in December and the common cold virus in February. Each of these hospital visits resulted in days in the ICU to prevent respiratory failure. We now have a challenging journey ahead of us as we focus on keeping Megan out of the hospital every time she catches a virus. We are hopeful and have a solid care plan.
During our time at the hospital, CHOC doctors and specialists provided Megan with phenomenal care in order to restore her health. She had the best nurses who nurtured her as they monitored her progress. They always made sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed. The “Child Life” staff gave her toys and other forms of entertainment as she was confined to her bed and room. I am so grateful for the care Megan received at CHOC.
In some senses, the parent also presents as a second “patient” within a pediatric hospital unit. As I watched my daughter fight to recover, it was the attention and compassion of the hospital staff, especially the nurses, that helped me get through the long hospital days. From the nurse that made sure my water cup was regularly refilled, to the nurse that asked me when I was going to take a break to eat or shower, and to the nurse that spent extra time in the room with me talking, I felt loved upon and cared for. This created a safe and healing space for me to solely focus on my daughter’s health and recovery. Nurses really do so much more than provide and monitor medical interventions. They also provide relational care in the midst of people’s suffering. I am so grateful for the way that the nurses cared for me as Megan's mother during a challenging time.
As an expression of gratitude for the phenomenal care we received I am raising money to support CHOC. Proceeds from this magical event will support health care programs, education, and research at CHOC and CHOC at Mission Hospitals. Help me exceed my fundraising goal for the benefit of the children and families of Southern California by:

Many thanks in advance for helping us make a difference for the children and families of Orange County!
With Gratitude,
Lauren
