Welcome to our CHOC Walk Team Page!
Brody Family
We're so excited to be participating in the 2024 CHOC Walk in the Park to raise funds for CHOC!
When Meyer was just 1 month old, we took him to the pediatrician for what we believed would be a routine check-up. What followed was a series of events that would save his life, and change all of our lives forever.
We were immediately sent to the ER and subsequently admitted to the pediatric ICU, where we learned that he had hydrocephalus. After multiple brain surgeries, he was finally stable. And we began a life-long journey of learning how to live with hydrocephalus and a shunt.
For those who don't know, hydrocephalus is a condition where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) accumulates and builds pressure in the brain. For whatever reason, the CSF can't drain on its own. The best treatment that exists right now is a medical device called a shunt, which is like a valve that helps the drain excess CSF out of the brain.
A shunt saved Meyer's life. But living with a shunt has its own challenges, not the least of which is the inevitability that shunts fail, necessitating emergency brain surgery.
We are so grateful to the neurosurgical team and the staff at CHOC for providing expert and compassionate care for Meyer over the last few years.
Every dollar raised from the CHOC Walk will support health care programs, education, and research at CHOC and CHOC at Mission Hospitals. More than two million children a year like Meyer depend on CHOC. And our community's generosity is what provides access to the best possible care and services.
You can help us exceed our fundraising goal for the benefit of the children's health and well-being. Donate now by clicking the $ button next to the team member you'd like to donate to below. We suggest Meyer :)
Many thanks in advance for helping us write a new future for so many children and their families.
With Gratitude,
Brody Family
