The Vasquez family is so excited to be participating in the 2024 CHOC Walk in the Park presented by Disneyland® Resort on Sunday, July 21, to raise funds for CHOC!
We can't wait to reunite with our amazing team, Super Kara & Friends for an early morning stroll through Disneyland® park and Disney California Adventure® park. We are most excited about this year's CHOC walk as our very own team captain, Kara Nguyen, is this year's CHOC walk Ambassador!
I (Janet) started participating in the CHOC walk since 2018 walking in support of Kara who was touched by CHOC the day she born. Two years later, 2020, our family was touched by CHOC when our 1st born, Haisley, had a small growth developing on the side of her skull. Luckily it was just a benign tumor that was routine for the doctors to remove. We are grateful to the doctors and nurses at CHOC for easing our anxieties of putting our little girl under and assuring us she was under the best care especially during COVID!
Little did we know that we would be touched by CHOC again later in the year when we found out our little bun in the oven, Noah, was diagnosed with DiGeorge syndrome, also known as 22q11. 2 deletion syndrome. It is a condition caused when a small part of chromosome 22 is missing. Severity of symptoms related to 22q11.2 deletion syndrome vary. We would not know how Noah would develop or what symptoms he could have as he grew. During my pregnancy, I had to make many trips to CHOC so they can keep on eye on his development in utero. It was a very scary and anxiety provoking time but he continued to grow and develop as normal. After he was born, we saw so many different specialists at CHOC as a preventative measure so they could continue to track his growth and development.
Fast forward, 2024, Noah continues to grow and develop as normal still seeing specialists at CHOC to be preventative. We are so beyond thankful for what CHOC has done for us and continues to do for our family. This is why we walk. This is why we support CHOC every year!
So, please help us in supporting CHOC by donating whatever amount that you can! Every dollar raised from this magical event will support health care programs, education, and research at CHOC and CHOC at Mission Hospitals. More than two million children a year depend on CHOC. And our community's generosity is what provides access to the best possible care and services.
