I am so excited to be participating in the 2019 CHOC Walk in the Park at the Disneyland Resort on August 11th to raise funds for CHOC Children's Hospital!
The fundraising efforts of the CHOC Walk make an immediate impact on families going through the most challenging time in their lives. CHOC provides the highest level of care not only to patients, but to the siblings, parents, and extended family that make up their critical support teams.
As you may know, our youngest daughter, Aaliyah, was diagnosed with campomelic dysplasia during her first ultrasound and we came to know that this skeletal disorder had a 90% infant mortality rate and died due to an underdeveloped brain that could not tell their lungs to breath. For those that survived, they were often severely mentally challenged. Aaliayah, however, would not to be denied and fought on and we counted on CHOC hospital guide her care. She struggled to feed due to a cleft palate, so they inserted a G-tube and, once she turned a year old, her palate was repaired. As she continued to develop, we was diagnosed with sever autism and, again, the CHOC team provided the necessary assessments and provided us guidance in her care. The craniofacial team, ENTs, pediatric neurologists, endocrinologists, and many other staff members helped us when we were in great need and they continue to monitor and check on her to this day.
Aaliyah is the reason we walk.
