Avery's Love Bugs

We are so excited to be participating in the 2018 CHOC Walk in the Park at the Disneyland Resort on August 26th to raise funds for CHOC Children's Hospital in memory of our Love Bug, Avery!

Avery was a fun loving 6 year-old who loved to sing, dance and act. She was a first grader at Baldy View Elementary in Upland,Ca. In November of 2010 she was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glimoa (DIPG), a cancerous tumor that is inoperable and has no cure. She underwent 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland as part of a clinical trial. Once returning to California she started a full regiment of chemotherapy as part of the trial. In March of 2011 a follow-up MRI at NIH determined that the tumor had started to grow as well as spread down her spine. At that time it was determined that she would no longer be apart of the clinical trial. After another week of radiation to her spine she returned home to California. Avery then began treatment at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) with a different chemo combination. A month after that Avery started showing more signs of that the cancer had spread so another MRI was done at CHOC, and it was determined that it indeed had. She underwent another week of radiation to her spine. During her treatment she was lucky to be granted her wish of spending the night at Disneyland from the Make-a-Wish foundation. She spent 6 days and 5 nights at the Disney Paradise Pier Hotel, and got to meet her favorite Disney characters, Jessie (from Toy Story 2&3), the princesses and many other Disney pals. She also got to go to Knott's Berry Farm to meet Snoopy and his pals. Sadly on May 24, 2011 Avery lost her battle at Children's Hospital of Orange County.

The CHOC Walk is our way of remembering Avery, thanking her amazing care team, and raising money for an extraordinary hospital.

The fundraising efforts of the CHOC Walk make an immediate impact on families going through the most challenging time in their lives. CHOC provides the highest level of care not only to patients, but to the siblings, parents, and extended family that make up their critical support teams.

Please help us exceed our fundraising goal for the benefit of the children and families of Southern California. Donate now or join Avery's Love Bugs at CHOC's magical morning at the Disneyland® Resort. Every dollar counts for kids!

Many Thanks,

Avery's Love Bugs
